Cortisol is NOT Making You Fat
Cortisol is not making you fat
We hear about cortisol and how it’s the devil and it makes us fat. For some reason women are very targeted in this, and we have to fear cortisol the most. We must fear it more than all specimens of this earth. No we don’t. It’s a human thing that all people have. It helps your body function properly so before you want to listen to folks saying fear the cortisol, maybe realize they're selling you something.
Cortisol is apparently the next thing we need to be afraid of. First it was estrogen as it was criminalized as something that causes breast cancer, now cortisol makes us fat.
Cortisol acts as a natural anti-inflammatory agent. Did anyone share that? No, they want you to fear cortisol. Ironically the misinformation and demonization of cortisol adds stress to our lives. Stress is what makes people unhealthy. Namely chronic stress.
Before you want to blame cortisol for your weight gain, think about how you're living. Are you sleeping? Are you stressed? Are you eating well? Are you on edge often? Are you consuming alcohol? I can’t imagine anyone with a commute feeling super relaxed on a daily basis. If you answer yes to any of these questions, therein lies a major component your weight issues. Not cortisol. It’s your lifestyle, it’s your stress management. Cortisol will react to how you are, it’s not just going to show up one day and make you fat.
Before blaming cortisol for your weight gain and purchasing some pill or product, look at you boo. Look at how you’re feeling on a daily basis. Essentially look at your contribution to your weight gain. People selling weight loss products know we don’t want to admit to overeating, or take responsibility for our habits. These companies know we would rather buy something instead of making a change. It seems we want to blame something as we can’t handle the fact we are in control of our weight and are not victims of cortisol.
What adjustments do you need to make to your life? Do you need to change your sleeping habits? Do you need to drink less alcohol? Do you need to eat less sugar? Do you need to develop some stress management? Do you need to learn how to not be in a heightened state at all times? Everything requires balance, and your cortisol will be balanced if you are.
