Detox

This is the next installment of don’t pay for something your body does for free!

This is your final notice to not buy that detox tea, the detox drink, or the detox program. Pretty much anything labeled detox. Maybe the word detox makes people think about weight loss?  Just stop and think please. Think about what you’re purchasing. You really think that’s going to work? You have been had. You have been duped. My girlfriend is a smart woman yet purchased pads that stick to the bottom of her feet that say they will detoxify her body causing weight loss. She got got.

I’d say the best detox would be to eat fruits, vegetables, grains, yogurt, nuts, and some additional healthy fats. Not raw everything, cook some things as well, be kind to your stomach. Stop drinking alcohol, stop smoking. Those two make it very difficult for your body to “detox” anything. Switch one processed meal for a not processed meal. Start there before you waste your money on quick fixes. Zero to 60 rarely if ever works.

Many people swear they lose weight on a detox, like a three to seven day detox. Yeah you probably did. You didn’t eat food or over consume calories. Hello calorie deficit! You lost weight because you ate less. You didn’t lose weight because of any detoxification that would then lead to weight loss. Your body might be enjoying the break from all the processed food, but I assure you there is nothing that has been “reset” or that even needs to be reset.

Don’t buy something that will send you on a three day food bender. You'll be worse off than when you started. I’ve seen people do a seven day detox, and be miserable the whole time. It becomes their identity and all they talk about. They lose six pounds and gain back 12.

How would we be people living and breathing if our bodies didn’t detoxify on a daily basis? Think about all the crap in the air and people who smoke. How do you think that’s a thing we can live with while inhaling? Lungs are magnificent.

Can you imagine after a night out and your body is  just holding the drinks and food you had? Is that what we think our bodies do? Our bodies aren’t these hoarders filling a house up with old magazines and newspapers. It’s always working to get to homeostasis, or a stable internal environment.

Our bodies are efficient as f@#$. I wanted to be direct there, that’s all I could come up with. Our bodies are always cleaning as if it has OCD, and removing waste. You ever wonder why you use the restroom? Does that not correlate as a visual for the extraction of unnecessary items?

Here are a few things we have in our bodies working for cleanliness:

Lungs

Lymph nodes

Blood vessels

Kidneys

Liver

Skin - think sweat here

These are your cleansing systems. There could be more, I don’t know. They continuously work to keep all systems going and working efficiently. Drinking the appropriate amount of water can help these systems perform their best.

The next time you look for a quick fix, ask yourself, does my body already do this? Most times it does. If it’s Ozempic or GLP-1, no it doesn’t do that. This post isn’t about that. It’s about acknowledging why you would buy something your body already does. I think it’s good to be honest with yourself. You want to lose weight and refuse to eat less, but are happy to buy some juice and starve yourself for three days like that’s the fix? It ain’t.

Save your money and thank your body.

Save your money and choose a habit that gets you closer to whatever place you thought the juice cleanse would.

This is all said with love.
