Myth Bust: Eating at night makes you gain weight

Myth: Eating at night will make you fat.

This has been a myth for many years. I had a friend who would be starving at night because she said she couldn’t eat after 6:00 pm.  It's funny to think that calories or what’s in your food change after a certain time of day. An apple is an apple before the sun goes down as well as after.

There isn’t a witching hour that doubles the calories of a glass of milk.  Absolutely not!  Your body handles food at all hours of the day. You consume the amount of calories in a day, it does not matter what time those calories go in. It’s about how many calories in a day that you have, it’s essentially a grand total.  If you eat a meal at 9:00 pm instead of 5:00 pm nothing is different about how those calories travel through your body (this is speaking for majority of people without health concerns).

The point is: the food you eat doesn’t mean more at night.

Harsh truth

Inherently, people need to eat less and instead of coming to terms with that, they want to blame late night eating as the culprit for their weight gain. You consume more calories than your body uses which in turn leads to weight gain.
